About the EDD

I am Tobias Frank, the founder of Dupré Digital. 2021 marked the 50th anniversary of Marcel Dupré’s death. Unfortunately, the pandemic made it impossible to celebrate this milestone with live concerts. Instead, I launched the international documentary project Dupré Digital with a small team, aiming to showcase Marcel Dupré in all his facets.
To this end, we conducted interviews with renowned figures such as Olivier Latry, Ben van Oosten, Helmut Deutsch, Prof. Denis Rouge, Dr Jeremy Filsell, Robert Quinney, Prof. Dr Albert Gier, Prof. Dr Winfried Bönig, Bruno Chaumet, Alice Szebrat (his granddaughter), and his pupils Dominique Rebourgeon and Michel Tissier.
The result is twelve fascinating episodes (in German, English and French) portraying Dupré as an Impressionist composer, church musician, teacher, improviser, concert organist, composer, visionary and private individual: an artistic personality with rough edges who continues to fascinate to this day.
A particular highlight of the series is the music that was hidden away in the archives of the French National Library in Paris and has been brought back to life for the first time by Dupré Digital. I transcribed the manuscripts into modern scores and created piano and organ reductions, as many of the works were originally intended for orchestral accompaniment.
As major music publishers were reluctant to take on niche projects after the pandemic, I set up my own publishing company to make these works accessible. This is how Edition Dupré Digital was started.
I am particularly grateful to Alice Szebrat, Dupré’s granddaughter, for her years of support, and to Jean-Marie and Claire Bernard, whose approval made the creation of Edition Dupré Digital possible.
