Jean Racine (1639–1699) is to the French what Shakespeare is to the British and Goethe to the Germans: a national poet whose texts, with their melodic flow of language, continue to inspire composers to this day. One of the most famous settings is Gabriel Fauré's Cantique de Jean Racine.

Similarly, Marcel Dupré's Cantique de Racine sets Racine's verses with pomp and splendour. The text is rich in imagery of light and astrological references – symbols of God's glory – which explain the energetic sonic grandeur and exuberant enthusiasm of this music.

Tobias A. Frank has transcribed the orchestral part into an organ score. Additionally, choir scores in German (EDD 1202) and English (EDD 1203) facilitate performance, which is ideal for ensembles for whom French poses a challenge.

This first edition includes a foreword and work information in German, English and French.
